Did you know?

60%

more garments were bought in 2014 than in 2000.

On average a person consumes 11.4kg (25 pounds) of apparel each year. The US is the largest consumers of new textiles where people consume 37kg (82 pounds) each. Unfortunately, we only keep the clothes for half as long as in 2000.

16

million tons of textile waste a year is generated in the US only.

We export 700,000 tons of used clothing to the developing countries and only recycle 2.5 million. A staggering number – 10 million tons – gets sent to landfills, killing people and nature with greenhouse gases.

11

kilograms of greenhouse gases are created by one kilogram of clothing over its entire life cycle.

No wonder that the fashion industry accounts for 8% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions releasing staggering four metric giga tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere. 49% is the projected increase of the fashion industry climate impact by 2030.

10

pounds of unwanted clothes, when up-cycled or donated, prevent 30-40 pounds of CO2 gases from polluting the atmosphere.

It also saves 14,000 gallons of water. This is the equivalent of taking 26,000-35,000 cars off the road.
